World Heritage Sites

A World Heritage Site is any specific site, such as a mountain range, forest, lake, desert, city, building, or complex, anywhere in the world that has been nominated for the international World Heritage program as administered by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). To qualify, these sites are considered to be of outstanding universal value in terms of their natural, environmental, or cultural importance. Designated World Heritage Sites merit exceptional international efforts to save them from damage and destruction and to raise awareness of their importance around the world.
